Drawing from Stillness

Movement, attention and expression

Park Oosterbeek (The Hague / Wassenaar)

Workshop July 12: Drawing from nature
Workshop August 9: Creating space

• On demand for your group of family, friends or colleagues

Focused, small-group afternoons in which we move from the outside in, and from the inside back out again.

We begin physically — often outdoors, in the park — with basic movement to bring attention into the body.
From there, attention is gathered further inward through standing or seated practice.
From that depth, we move outward again, drawing from what has come to life within.

Approaches may include:

  • drawing from nature
  • mandala and enso
  • working with the five elements
  • inner landscape
  • drawing without intention
  • automatic drawing
  • symbol emergence

Structure
Each session follows a clear rhythm:

  • movement and loosening
  • deepening attention (standing or seated stillness)
  • drawing
  • brief reflection

Sessions take place in a cosy atelier in beautiful park Oosterbeek.

The Work
Working first through the body, then through attention, and from there into image.
What you create is not the goal.
It is a trace of what emerges when attention and imagination begin to align.

By who
Mattijs van Katwijk graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 2000. Alongside his work as an illustrator, comic artist and mural painter, he developed a growing fascination with the internal arts of Taiji Quan and Qigong.

Over the past years, he has devoted himself full-time to the study of Nei Gong in Indonesia. Drawing from Stillness is where these two disciplines meet: the practice of refining attention through internal training, the art of seeing through drawing, and the creative process that emerges from their meeting.

The result is a unique workshop that invites participants to slow down, observe more deeply, and discover how stillness can become a source of both perception and expression.

For whom
For those who want to explore what becomes possible when attention and image are brought together.
No prior experience in drawing, bodywork or meditation is required.
